My favourite pastime

My favourite pastime is flower arranging. I like flowers and beautiful pots to put them in.

When I was 15 years old, I learned flower arranging at my church. Two beautiful old women were my teachers. They taught me many things about basic flower arrangements. I remember one women said that "Everyone's feelings can be expressed by their flower arrangements". When I do flower arranging, I feel very happy. Usually, when I prepare to arrange flowers, I draw the design I want, find the most beautiful leaves and flowers, and then find special pots.

I was a teacher in Burma, but sometimes I did flower arranging for weddings, birthdays and other ceremonies. There are many kinds of flowers arrangement from all over the world, but I love the Japanese style of flower arranging the best. To my thinking," Ikebana", or the art of flower arrangement, represents the nice things about our daily lives.

Now, in Australia I still do flower arranging for my church and for my friends. I cannot use all of the same flowers that I used in Burma; however there are many flowers here to choose from. Australian wild flowers are very colourful and I can easily use them in my arrangements.

  1. I used to do a lot of flower arranging, but I haven't done any for ages because I'm so busy with work. The last big event I did was for my parents' 50th wedding anniversary 24 years ago!
