The Thingyan Festival

In Burma , there are many festivals all the year round. We can enjoy a seasonal festival every month. Out of these festivals, I like Thingyan, water festival the most. It marks the changing of the year and it is a special festival in my country.

It is called the Myanmar New Year festival. It usually falls on the 13th of April and lasts three or four days. During the festival, people throw water on one another. They throw water in order to wash away the impurities of the old year and to welcome the new year with pure mind and body. It is a wonderful time of joy for children, youths and older people. People throw water at everyone in sight. They go round the town in jeeps or trucks singing, dancing and shouting slogans. Some tease one another and make jokes for pleasure.

The most exciting sight and activities can be seen in the festival. Even foreigners take part. Pious people spend their time by doing good deeds. It is a beautiful and lovely custom or culture of Burma. In fact, Thingyan is the most popular festival in Burma and it makes everyone happy .
